The Friends of the R H Johnson Library support a lecture series usually presented on the last Wednesday of the month on topics of health, history, and community resources.
The Friends of the Library Speaker will be on at the Lecture Hall of the R. H. Johnson Rec Center (next to the Sports Pavilion). The title of this month’s presentation is Overview of diagnosis, treatment, and progression of Alzheimer’s disease presented by Dr. De Santiago from Banner Sun Health Research Institute.
Dr. De Santiago will be discussing essential topics related to diagnosing and treating Alzheimer’s disease. She will touch on early warning signs of cognitive decline, when to seek medical care, and what to expect from a cognitive evaluation. She will clarify terminology, including the difference between “Alzheimer’s” and “dementia”. She will also briefly touch on Alzheimer’s progression, treatment options, and currently enrolling clinical trials.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr. Stephanie De Santiago is an adult-gerontology nurse practitioner who specializes in cognitive neurology at Banner Sun Health Research Institute. She holds a doctorate degree in nursing practice along with a bachelor's degree in nursing and both a bachelor's and master's degree in Kinesiology. She has a special interest in neurodegenerative disorders and has been working in this field for the past 11 years. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Dr. De Santiago worked as a neurology nurse research specialist, neurosurgical critical care nurse, and an exercise physiologist. She is also associate faculty at Arizona State University for the Doctor of Nursing Practice program.
