Event Details

The library will be hosting two local authors that will be giving book talks and book signings. Their books will be available for sale.

Our first local author is Del Bates Bloomquist who writes under the pen name Del Uvon Bates. Del Uvon Bates Bloomquist spent most of her life dedicated to art, and many of her pieces can be found in communities across the country, including San Marcos, the Palisades and New York. However, now in her 90’s, Bloomquist has found it increasingly challenging to continue her devotion to sculpting. Shifting from one art form to another, she’s on a new adventure – setting off to fulfill her late-discovered dream to become an author. As an avid reader herself, Bloomquist has always been fascinated by romantic crime and mystery novels, so she decided to write a book herself. She recently published the first of what she hopes to be a series of novels, “the Agency – One.”

A story of sisters Elaine and Lou Richard's; twins bonded not only through family, but a career of secrecy and deception - working as agents for The Agency. Despite a desperate attempt to temporarily break away from their busy lives, they ultimately find themselves embarking on a mission in which they've never faced before. Follow the Richards, as they pursue a psychotic serial killer along the beaches of California and the mountains of Washington State. If this wasn't enough, they're also in a race against time to find a missing college student, and a fellow agent gone rogue. A riveting thriller - filled with suspense, mystery and romance.

Our second author is Don Loun. He has written his first book about his experience as a major league baseball player titled “Major League Shutout Debut: A Look Back After 60 Years.”

As Loun looks back on his nine-year professional baseball career (1961-1969), he recalls on-and-off the field minor league experiences and his climb to the majors. He shares his insights, warnings and observations about the game, then and today. His Pitching Specifics section offers instructional details for pitchers, coaches, and enthusiasts alike.

Now aged 83, Loun's reflections detail the challenges and successes of a hopeful athlete navigating the system. Baseball was much more than a game, Loun learns, as he unravels what happened to his promising career, yet values having been a part of the enduring legacy of America’s favorite pastime.
